Authorizing syswimap.exe and wincnc.exe through Windows® 10/11 Firewall
syswimap.exe and winvnc.exe are the names of the executable files that provide audio and video communication between computers. When they are run for the first time, they must be authorized like this.
In addition, to ensure that these authorizations are permanent, appropriate entries must be made on the Windows® Firewall Rules panel. The Student-Screen-Monitor setup program takes care of this but you may want to check it. Open the control panel (Windows® 10 is shown but Windows® 11 is almost identical).
Click on Update & security.
Then click on Security (The screenshots below show the French version of Windows ®).
Then on Firewall.
Then here Advanced Settings.
This panel appears. Click on Inbound Rules. After a few seconds a list appears. There should be multiple references to syswimap and winvnc. This is normal. Do NOT delete any of them. At least four different headings may be present: SSMT, syswimap, VNC Server and winvnc8.
If for some reason these references are absent you can create them yourself. Click on New Rule.
On Program.
Then find this file:
C:\ Program Files (x86) \ Student-Screen-Monitor_Student\syswimap.exe and authorize it for private networks.
You must then repeat this procedure for this file: C:\ Program Files (x86) \ Student-Screen-Monitor_Student\WIN10-11\winvnc.exe
Note that the first time these programs are run after the firewall rules have been updated, you will still see the authorization windows shown above and you must authorize each program.
